YOUR EXISTING POLICY

Before you change a policy, ask these five questions.

A policy you bought years ago may still offer valuable protection. A new policy is not automatically a better fit. Put the details side by side before deciding.

What would you give up?

Ask which existing guarantees, benefits, and policy provisions would be lost. Have your insurer explain them in writing.

What would the change cost?

Compare premiums over time, fees, and any surrender charges. A lower payment today does not explain the whole picture.

Would you qualify for the new coverage?

A new application may involve fresh underwriting. Ask about exclusions and when coverage would actually become effective.

What is guaranteed?

Separate contractual guarantees from estimates and illustrated values. Projections should not be treated as promises.

Could you keep what works?

Ask whether an update or additional coverage could address the concern. Do not cancel an existing policy based on a quote or an online checkup.
